Jebel al-Harim (also known as Jebel As-Sayah or Mountain of Women) is an impressive mountain peak reaching 2056m above sea level. It is the highest mountain in Musandam. “Khor Najd” is one of the largest lagoons in the Governorate of Musandam and is from the word ‘help’ in Arabic. At times of distress, travelers and traders lay up there during bad weather conditions at sea. The Khasab Musandam mountain Safari is one of the most popular activities among tourists visiting Oman due to its incredible beauty and adventure. The tour begins with a pick-up from your hotel in Khasab Musandam or from the meeting point before heading out on an exciting journey.

Musandam mountain safari is a four-wheel drive journey through some spectacular scenery including wadis (dry riverbeds), terraced mountainsides, isolated villages as well as dramatic coastline views which you will be able to visit during stops en route at various vantage points such as Khor Najd and Jebel Harim (the highest peak). During these stops, you will also have time for photos so don’t forget your camera!

Khasab Musandam mountain safari is a private trip, and it can be started at any time. Normally we offer morning and evening departures for better views and photography. The morning tour leaves by 09:30 am and ends by 01:00 pm and the afternoon leaves by 01:30 pm and ends by 04:30 pm. Here is the detailed itinerary for the morning Musandam mountain safari.

09:00 AM -Meet & Greet

Our mountain guide will meet you at the given meeting point 30 minutes before the starting time and will guide you about the route map and the areas we will be covering in the Musandam mountain safari. If you are staying in any hotel in Khasab Musandam, we will pick you up from your hotel reception. If you are arriving in Khasab Oman by cruise ship, then we will pick you up from the cruise terminal accordingly.

09:30 AM -Khasab Highlights

 As we leave for the adventurous mountain safari, we will pass by different government buildings, Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, Khasab downtown, and small markets. Our guide will provide you with detailed information about the area on the way.

10:00 AM – Khor Najd

Our first stop will be Khor Najd, a beautiful sea viewpoint and the best place for photography. Khor Najd” is one of the largest lagoons in the Governorate of Musandam and is from the word ‘help’ in Arabic. 10:30 – Bait-Al-Quful

 As we come down from the Khor Najd, our second stop will be “Bait-Al-Quful” the “House with old lock”. At the present time, ‘Bait Al Quful’ represents an architectural landmark, still existing and telling of itself in varying numbers, in the scattered villages in the mountains of the governorate.

Ras Al Jeeb in Al Ruhaiba Village in the Wilayat of Khasab hosts a large number of these houses. ‘Bait Al Quful’ imposed itself on the prominent tourist landmark list in the governorate. A model of ‘Bait Al Quful’ was built in Khasab Fort to be close to tourists and visitors.

11:00 AM – Mountain Home

 We will continue driving into the mountain and will stop on the way to see the “Mountain Home” where a man used to live for a long and climb up the mountain to reach his home. We will also see the waterfall compound that is filled with water in the rainy season.

11:30 AM – Wadi As-Sayah

Wadi As Saya is a beautiful wadi surrounded by majestic mountains. It is lush green from October to April every year there is rain. A few farmers grew crops there as well and some adventures go camping as well.

12:00 PM – Jebel Al Harim

 Our last stop will be Jebel Al Harim, that is (also known as Jebel As-Sayah or Mountain of Women). It is an impressive mountain peak reaching 2056m above sea level, but we will stop at around 1784 meters. It is the highest mountain in Khasab Musandam Oman.

Jebel-Harim is enriched with fossils that point toward a civilization that was settled long ago in the mountainous area. This is proven to be right with the evidence of stone carvings that depict humans and their animals’ images. There is a wall of fossils present in the area that is direct evidence of the images of many sea animals that existed hundreds of years ago like starfish, crabs, and shells carved on the wall.

01:00 PM – Drop Off

After visiting Jebel Al Harim, we will drive down from the mountains and our Khasab Musandam mountain safari will come to an end. You will be dropped off at your hotel or given location in Khasab Musandam Oman.

WHAT TO BRING?

We advise all the participants to wear light dresses and hiking shoes in the summer season and carry a jacket in the winter season as there may be around 10 degrees centigrade temperature lower as compared to Khasab city.
